The tomato is an herbaceous perennial solanum of up to 1.50 m. The tomato sorts differ primarily in shape, size, and in the weight of the fruits. The so-called round, or normal tomatoes are on average 40-75 mm in size and weigh 50-100 g. The round tomatoes have 2-3 fruit chambers, with many yellowish, flat seeds embedded in a jelly-like mass.
QUALITYNOTE
Tomatoes are not actually store vegetables because they are sensitive to cold. The ideal storage temperature depends on its degree of maturity. Tomatoes that have matured in colour can be kept up to 14 days at a temperature of 8-10° C and a relative humidity at 80-90 %.
