The fresh fruit success story began when Tiete Port established a fruit business at Messberg 32/33 in Port of Hamburg in 1875.

Tiete Port?s son Theodor concentrated all his entrepreneurial energy on making tropical fruit a part the company?s assortment. He imported the first bpineapple in the company?s own refrigerator ships from Columbia in 1912. Unfortunately, two world wars followed and the company had difficult times to overcome.
 
 
 
THE GLOBALIZATION STARTS AT THE 50S

Germany?s economic miracle of the fifties, however, provided just the right start-up atmosphere for John and Hajo Port and paved the way for new prosperity.The most important milestones of this era ? besides global operations ? were the expansion of the banana business and the establishment of a Dutch import company.

VISIONS FOR THE FUTURE

Today, Mike Port ? in the fruit business since 1985 ? runs the Port consortium in the fifth generation. Besides the conventional global fruit business, his main emphasis is on the organic and fair trade areas.
