KEYWORD: ORGANIC CULTIVATION

Organic fruit is
grown in mixed
cultivations. Cocoa
and banana plants
alternate here.

Irrelevant of their origin, all produce sold within the EU as organic produce, must satisfy the strict guidelines of the EC environmental regulations. Organic cultivation ensures both the natural growth of the fruit and an unpolluted environment.

THE CONDITIONS FOR ORGANIC CULTIVATION

All organic produce is under the supervision of independent institutes and monitored on a regular basis to ensure that:

  • the produce is grown without the use of chemical synthetic pesticides
  • weeding is done by hand
  • no easily soluble or mineral fertilizer is used
  • harmful monocultures are avoided
  • the fruit does not contain any genetically changed
    components
  • pest control is carried out by protecting useful insects and by the controlled release of their natural enemies

According to the EC environmental rules all parties involved in trade with organic certified produce must be monitored at least once a year. For example, it is being controlled that all necessary documents are available for all type of organic products and that mixing with conventional products is avoided.
